Youth Programs
Lyrical/Contemporary – Ages 7+
CLASS TYPE: Full Year, Sept-June. Recital and competition mandatory, high level of commitment.
Inspired by individuality, interpretation and creating new dance forms, this class will combine technical skills from ballet and jazz dance, into one class. Dancers will learn about the importance of emotion in performance and how to express themselves through choreographic themes. Our lyrical/contemporary dance classes focus on combining technique and emotion to create captivating performances that will tug at the heart strings.
Dancers will explore a variety of techniques and strategies to express movement and the emotions associated with that movement in an imaginative and meaningful way. In their lyrical/contemporary class dancers can expect to work on fundamental skills such as flexibility, strength, and balance in addition to learning and creating combinations of movement with a meaning.
Prerequisites
We require that dancers in taking the lyrical/contemporary competitive program take ballet and or/ jazz technique classes in addition to their weekly lyrical class. Dancers must have strong technique for lyrical/contemporary dance which is why we require prerequisites for this class. Your dancer’s prerequisites will be dependent upon their age and level. In addition to weekly ballet and/or jazz classes all of our competitive dancers are required to take the mandatory Mind and Body class offered to our competitive students. For dancers who wish to take contemporary/lyrical classes without the commitment of a prerequisite are encouraged to register for our Sampler class; a combo class that combines lyrical/contemporary, ballet and acro techniques and styles.
Our lyrical/contemporary dance classes will have the opportunity to perform their exquisite and expressive work at our year end recital and at 2-3 competitions. These performances allow the dancers to show off all the hard work they have put into their dance classes for the year with a unique routine, choreographed by their dance teacher.
