Wow, what a whirlwind of a competition season!

We kicked off the most wonderful time of the year with our competition team launch party on April 11, where we talked about the season ahead, set our own personal goals, broke into teams and created some amazing backstage chants for our team (see video below!) and went away with some great Snap swag for everyone.

Our first competition of the season was Dance 4 Dreams at the University of Calgary Theatre, where we danced to raise money for the Cochrane Activettes. It was a fantastic few days of dancing and camaraderie and we ended up with 3 dances in the dance off. Congratulations to:

  • Bad (Large Musical Theatre)
  • Burnin’ Love (Snapper Selects Jazz)
  • Dollz (Intermediate Jazz)

Bad walked away with first place and Jill S., one of our advanced dancers, received a scholarship to Harbour Dance Centre. Way to go dancers!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next up was Dance Invasion at Rockpointe Church. We always love this competition as it is close to home and we get to see a lot of the other local studios! It was great to see our dancers hit the stage again and the growth they had from our first competition. We love watching their team work and how much fun they have together behind the scenes! We had 6 dances in the Sunday night dance off. Kudos to:

  • Bad (Large Musical Theatre) – 1st place – Int 1 Category
  • Play That Sax (Junior Jazz) – 3rd place- Junior Category
  • The Show (Snapper Selects Ballet) – 4th place – Junior Category
  • Station (Advanced Lyrical/Contemporary) – 2nd place – Int 2 Category Category
  • Long Lost Pal (Large Advanced/Pre Advanced Jazz) – 4th place – Int 2 Category
  • Thumbs (Advanced Tap) – 3rd place – Advanced Category

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally, we spent May 2 to 6 at Great Canadian Dance Challenge at the Martha Cohen Theatre in Calgary. It was a great week in the city where we got to see some studios we haven’t seen in awhile! A huge thank you to our SPA for renting us our very own change room and rehearsal space, it was wonderful! Congratulations to Mackenzie A. who received a scholarship to The Edge in Los Angeles!

We were so proud of how hard our dancers worked and the results they accomplished – a great end to a great season!

And then…it was time to party! We headed to the bouncers at Spray Lakes on May 12 to wrap up a great season! We had for a ton of fun in the bouncers, and our very own pizza party. Dancers wrote thank you cards to the people they were grateful for throughout the season, we gave out our dancer-voted-on awards and had a little dance party to end the night. Shout out to:

Yet again, we were blown away with the awesome-ness of our Snap community; from the bond between older and younger dancers and supportive parents, to the growth and passion we see from our dancers every time they hit the stage. We are so proud of you all and want to say a huge THANK YOU for all of your hard work and being a part of the Snap community.
